What's New at Peninsula School?
Starting this September 30 we will replace the After School Snack with a Super Snack. The Super Snack provides a more substantial and nutritionally balanced afternoon snack for students. Unlike the After School Snack, the Super Snack is available to any student who is after school for any reason. The student does not have to be enrolled in the After School Program. Visiting show choirs, sports teams and students from other schools may enjoy a Super Snack as well.
All Super Snacks consist of meat/meat alternate, whole grain, vegetables, fruit and 1% or nonfat milk.
The Super Snack is free to all students under 18 or enrolled in a 9-12 school.
Super Snack is provided with funds from the Child and Adult Care Feeding Program and rules require these meals be eaten on the school grounds.
What is the Child and Adult Care Feeding Program (CACFP)?
The CACFP is a federally funded program that is administered by the states to ensure that eligible children have access to healthy, nutritious food.
CACFP serves At Risk After School Programs, Adult Day Centers, Child Care Centers, Family Day Care Homes and Emergency Shelters.
The Child and Adult Care Food Program has served 4.2 million children and 130,000 adults nationwide.
