School Gardens Need Help

SCHOOL GARDEN PLANS 4-12-14

Christa Little-Siebold is the parent in charge of developing our school gardens and she excited about getting lots of garden projects going with volunteer help. She is looking at the first two weeks in May as the time frame to work on many of the projects listed below. If you can help out, please contact her at [email protected].

Here is a list of possible activities for the Union River Garden

- plant a mail box
-assemble a gate/arbor
-dig posts
-assemble deer fence
-assemble a stick made compost bin
-put trellis in place
-assemble potato bins

-plant rhubarb
-plant elderberries
-replant forsythia
-highbush blue berries
-plant donation of lilac

-stake area of work
-re-locate three ground level beds
-lay cardboard, leaves, straw prep area for beds to go
-assemble 8 new beds

-help with the compost and soil, mix seaweed in beds, etc.
-screw signs to the beds, paint and write signs
-distribute wood chips were necessary
-prepare the garden shed so we can hang tools
-etc etc

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION!

Ellsworth Elementary/Middle School will be holding its Kindergarten registration on Tuesday, April 15 and Wednesday, April 16. This year we will be registering students by hourly appointments. Parents may call Mrs. Cox at 667-6241 ext. 2 to set up an appointment to register their child for the 2014-2015 school year. Children need not be present. An Open House for incoming kindergarten families will be held in late May. The screening process will be done in the fall when the new school year begins.

Be sure to bring your child’s birth certificate (original or certified copy), immunization records, a current photo of your child and proof of your residency in Ellsworth. Any child who is five years old on or before October 15, 2014 is eligible to enter Kindergarten.
