Ellsworth Elementary Middle School PK-4

Bean tepees are ready thanks to the volunteer work of parents and children last Friday the 13th. The Reader Buddy team of Mrs. Newett and Mrs. Young planted about 40 mammoth sunflowers at the school's main entrance and at our union River Outdoor Classroom. These will great you in September! The first graders are about to plant bean seeds and their five varieties of pumpkins and squashes. The Learning Community's cabbages are becoming gigantic and their radishes are ready to eat. They will soon plant their corn which they plan to serve as popcorn next school year!
Mrs. Roguski is planting surprise veggies with her students before the school is over, and Mrs. Stackpole from 7th grade is also taking over. Take a leisure walk at our two school gardens and enjoy! We need your hands at the School Garden for the big last push to get the soil ready for teachers and students to plant their seeds and seedlings! We had a great time today with Jedlie, the Magician. His show was awesome and students enjoyed his message. Thank you PTF for this great opportunity.

Sharing a few pictures that show the great energy at our First Spring Garden Party. 7 families showed up with tools including beach buckets to work in the gardens on Friday, May 9.

EEMS started their vermiculture bins in the classrooms of Mrs. Kell (Learning Community), Mrs. Brown (grade 4), and Mrs. Mattila (grade 7). Parent volunteer Wayne Simmons prepared the bins. Marjorie Peronto, specialist in vermiculture of the University of Maine Extension came to do demonstrations in those classrooms. Soon these students will be "feeding" the soil of our school gardens.
