Background Information
Background Information
Regional School Unit 24 was certified by the Maine State Board of Education (certification letter) after voters approved the Reorganization Plan on December 9, 2008 (referendum results).
RSU 24 became fully operational on July 1, 2009 and local school
boards have generally been replaced by local advisory committees for each school.
As
required by law, a joint meeting of all present local school boards was
held on December 15, 2008. The joint boards elected Omar Norton as
Interim Secretary and set February 12, 2009 as the election date for
the RSU 24 school board (minutes of joint boards meeting).
Initial board terms were set and members were appointed to the Interim
RSU Board. The Interim Board then met after the joint boards adjourned
and agreed to use the Maine School Management Association to oversee the superintendent search process (minutes of Interim RSU Board meeting). The RSU 24 school board was elected on February 12, 2009.Unofficial results are linked here. The first Board meeting took place on
March 3, 2009.
Reorganization Plan The Board and RSU 24 are governed by the Reorganization Plan
that was developed in 2008 and approved by voters. The weighted
vote and cost sharing table shown in the Plan has been amended to
exclude the town of Otis that voted not to join the regional school
unit (revised weighted vote and cost sharing table).
